Chemical is the music industry’s best kept secret.

It is astonishing that this lyrically brilliant Chicago native is a mere 20 years of age. Growing up listening to Biggie and Pac, Terrence Smith a.k.a. Chemical began to develop a love for hip hop. He started to realize his exceptional skills while a student at Dunbar High School; as someone created beats by banging on the lunchroom table, Terrence flowed and regularly drew a large admiring crowd. Due to his ability to spit various rapping styles, he was given the name Chemical. He is like a chemical reaction that yields substances of different compositions and properties.
Chemical is inspired by artists like Canabis who he is often compared to because of sharp wit and raw voice; Lil’ Wanye because of unique style and smooth flow; JayZ for his lyrical ability; and his cousin Konquest, one of his amazing producers, who from the beginning recognized Chemical’s talent and constantly urged him to succeed. Chemical’s main two producers are Project-C and Chi-C; the three are a fantabulous match. He met them once he signed on with the Now OR Neva Management Company. Now OR Neva discovered Chemical and immediately recognized potential: a relentless young man ready to give 110%. He reminded them of the old school rappers because of his exceptional lyrical skill, genuine love of music, and ability to take any aspect of life and rap about it.
Chemical lives in the studio. He and Now ORNeva created two CD’s in 2005, “KP & Chemical” with the straight street song Chi-Town Speaking Out and “Chemical Reaction”. The CD’s are raw and real. Some of the songs are especially impressive. On his new CD Chemical manifests his versatile rapping style: speaking about life and wherever the mood took him. Four powerful tracks stand out – Choppin’ Boy, a fun, high tempo song about getting in a nice, geared up car and choppin’ the streets, showing off the bling bling; Get it Cracking, a hood song that celebrates being free to do whatever you want, whenever you want and however you want to do it; Loosen your Heart, a powerful track about when he first met his girlfriend, Jaimie Martin, the message is don’t be afraid of love; and the spirited song, In the Ghetto, refers to Chemical’s struggle to survive, keep his head up, and move his family somewhere better.
At nine years old, Chemical started boxing at the youth center in Stateway Gardens as a way of avoiding the negative aspects of the streets. He became very good at it and for a long time, he aspired to become a successful boxer. However, once rap entered the picture, he decided to put one of his God given talents on hold. Maybe he won’t ever professionally fight in the ring, but he will use those skills to fight for his proper place in hip hop’s history. With undeniable talent, the support of positive people and a will to make a better life for his family, Chemical is going to win the fight. “I’m doing it for my son, self, family, the hood, kids, women, love and more”.
